  • Frustration and Success

I’m trying to get credentials for spring training from the A’s, but I keep getting rejected by the MLB people in charge of that. They apparently have a blanket policy that disregards blogs as less than journalism. Here’s the brief email I received from the media contact:

We only credential websites that are part of a national newsgathering association and not fan driven, blog sites. This is a policy as set by MLB and we abide by it.

I’m not giving up yet, though. I sent a reply respectfully pointing out the flaws in that policy, and the exceptions that I’ve seen granted. We’ll see how it goes. In any case, I’m still going to try and interview people in Arizona in March.

On the positive side, my first article went up at PCPsports. It’s a brief overview of the Frank Thomas signing. I’ll be writing over there occasionally. The site doesn’t really “launch” until March, but I’m getting in now. I’ll be covering the A’s there, as well as writing about general baseball and sports opinions.

You think Blez is going to get another credential from the A’s?

I’d think he would. He’s only grown tighter with Billy Beane in the past year.
