The AP baseball photo wire is a wonderful thing
While browsing around for baseball pictures, I came across a few that I just couldn’t resist sharing, and poking some fun at.
[I’d like to make sure it’s clear right away, though, that these pictures were taken by the fine folks at the AP, and I have nothing to do with them.]
Since, it’s Christmas-time, I’ll lead off with the surreal image of Mr. Met terrorizing small children. David Wright dresses us as Santa Claus, but I think if they wanted someone to play an old white guy, they should have just went with Tom Glavine, who actually is an old white guy.

Next up is the press conference that the Devil Rays held to announce that they’d be playing a series in Orlando next season. Jorge Cantu looks pretty upset, while Scott Kazmir looks like he’d rather be anywhere else… or he just smelled something awful. They’re not upset about all the empty seats, though, they’re used to that.

Hey, at least while they were there, they went to Disney World. It looks like it raised their spirits.

With all the hoopla surround Daisuke Matsuzaka’s arrival in Boston, I think David Ortiz wanted some attention. Why else would he dress like this? Those are some crazy movie star shades.

Speaking of movies, apparently Barry Bonds went to the premier of Dream Girls with Arsenio Hall. Hall is indicating how many times a week Bonds takes HGH… evades his taxes… does nothing unethical.

And this picture, I’m not even going to try and make something up. It’s Gil Meche, who just signed a $55 million deal, being asked to give the hat and jersey back to Royals GM Dayton Moore. Apparently they weren’t part of the contract.

Why is Kenny Lofton smiling in the following picture? One of two reasons, I think. The first reason is that he’s still getting paid to play baseball.

The second reason Lofton is smiling? He doesn’t have to listen to Tommy Lasorda any longer. Luis Gonzalez, however, is getting an earful.

The last picture I’m going to post is just a downright outstanding shot. It’s a play at the plate between the Giants and Dodgers from last season, and I don’t know how Jeffrey Phelps got it, but it’s awesome.

Although, I do feel bad for Todd Greene. How do you protect the plate against Prince Fielder? He’s not a small man.

Did anyone ever listen to Tommy Lasorda? ;)
