  • Oakland A’s at Fremont?

    The only real news from the Fremont City Council meeting that A’s managing owner Lew Wolff attended on Tuesday night was bad news. No, the A’s aren’t being contracted in a surprise preemptive strike by Bud Selig. And no, Billy Beane didn’t sign Darin Erstad.

    The bad news comes via the authoritative New A’s Ballpark Blog. It appears that our initial fears may have been correct, and the AL West will now be home to not one but two geographically ambiguous team names.

    Oakland A’s at Fremont? Just when I though Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim was bad, Wolff goes and changes the preposition.

    I’ll just have to resort to calling them the A’s. No geographical descriptor, just the team name. It’s better than OAAF, which reminds me of the sound my grandpa makes when he shanks a ball into the woods on the back nine. Not that it happens often. After all, it’s usually my golf ball we’re taking a hike to locate…
