Just think, if I’m writing this much in January…
I’ve recently changed a few things about my writing. I’ve been asked to come aboard Catfish Stew and Beyond the Boxscore, and I’m also covering Husker baseball for Corn Nation and Big Red Analysis.
With that magical time of year — when baseball is actually played — just around the corner, things would get awfully cluttered around here if I were to post everything on The Pastime. Therefore, every few days I’m going to post links to my newest articles around the blogosphere.

- My first article is up on Catfish Stew, and it’s about the differences in how Justin Duchscherer and Huston Street accumulate strikeouts. It has some nifty sparklines, too.
- I’ve written up the second in a series of positional profiles for the Huskers, touching on middle infielders, at Corn Nation.
- In the sports section of the Outside the Beltway blog, I’ve touched on the winter league progress of Marco Scutaro (Lil’ Papi) and Erubiel Durazo (Alligator Arms / The Grail). I’m optimistic about both, though both will have to fight long and hard in March to earn playing time.
- As if there weren’t enough ridiculous stats already, I’ve invented a new one called SBOWP to try and measure how much impact each hitter had on the success of the Huskers last season. It’s something like Win Shares for collegiate baseball, but not as reliable or fancy. After all, that acronym stands for Stupidly Basic Offensive Win Portions…
- Also at Big Red Analysis, I’ve run across some good news for Husker fans, and anyone who likes listening to college baseball on the radio.
- Oh, and John Beamer gave me a shout out in his latest Hardball Times article about the beauty and wonder that is Baseball-Reference’s Play Index. I’d like to think that my little post on Beyond the Boxscore was the inspiration… but I’m sure Beamer has had that rolling around since PI came about a few weeks ago.
