  • The Caribbean Series

The Caribbean Series is now wrapped up as los beisbolistas del Republica Dominicana won their 16th title. Pardon my spanish, as it’s not very good…

I noticed something interesting in this AP story about the series, though:

CAROLINA, Puerto Rico (AP) — Jose Sandoval’s RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning led Mexico to a 4-3 victory over Venezuela on the last day of the Caribbean Series on Wednesday.

Mexico ended the tournament with one win in six games, while Venezuela was 2-4.

The Dominican Republic clinched the title Tuesday with a victory over Mexico and Puerto Rico’s loss against Venezuela.

Mexico’s Vinny Castilla, who retired after the game, was 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

The Dominican Republic plays Puerto Rico in the night game.

No, what jumped out at me isn’t the fact that Vinny Castilla is retiring. What I noticed is that even though the DR has clinched the title, they’re still playing the games!

Imagine if all series were like this. The Tigers would have had to play the last two games of the World Series last season. How do you even fill out the lineup card for something like that

    What a strange thought.
