  • Flares to Left Field

None of these topics/links merit a full post, so I’m going to bunch them all together and call it Flares to Left Field, since they’re not as good as the real deal.

    - The Husker pitching data has been updated, and now includes pitcher’s game-by-game data on groundballs, lineouts, pop outs, fly balls, GIDP, strikeouts, and foul outs. There’s a link over on the right-hand sidebar —->

    - Speaking of the Huskers, I got my ticket in the mail today for the Nebraska-Wichita State game on April 11th. For $12 I got a ticket in the 3rd row of section 1 at Eck Stadium in Wichita. I’ve never been there, but it looks like a great place to watch a game.

    - My letter/article about the Schilling vs. Smoltz debate was mentioned in John Brittain’s mailbag at The Hardball Times. In the article, Brittain said, “I highly recommend my readers click the above link—well worth your time. Glad I inspired a column—I love it when that happens with me.” Thanks for the link and the kind words, John.

    - I bought a ticket to the White Sox vs. A’s matchup on May 21st in Chicago. I’m sitting way the heck out in the rightfield corner, but at $17.50, I can’t complain too much. Any other A’s fans in the upper midwest planning on going to a game in Chicago when the A’s are in town?

    - Kansas City Royals single tickets go on sale on March 3rd. For all you midwestern A’s fans — which there are surprisingly quite a few — be sure to grab some tickets for the May 8th-10th Oakland series. Last year Oakland came to KC twice, but they’re only in town once this season. There’s a growing group of A’s fans that get together before the games and tailgate, so come join us. It’s fun — and since it’s KC — cheap, too.

    - You may have noticed that I haven’t posted as much here, or the plethora of other places I write, over the past two days. I’ve been at home on the farm in Elkhorn, offering my dad some help with the cattle. It’s calving season, and we just had a big, wet snowstorm here in Nebraska. I was rolled out of bed at seven this morning by my little brother, who told me that I needed to get outside and help my dad pull a calf. That was fun… I’m back in Lincoln now, so I’ll be back up to speed with writing very soon.

    - Hey, it’s only four more days until the A’s open Spring Training against the Brewers on Thursday. Also, it’s only a week until I leave the driven snows of Nebraska for the baseball-saturated Valley of the Sun in Arizona.
