  • Papago Park, Here I Come

I’m going to head to the A’s minor league camp on Friday to take in some farm system action. It’s much more laid back and open there, which will be conducive to the work I’m doing over at A Minor Consideration.

I stopped in at Papago Park today for a few minutes, before the Rangers-A’s game down the street at Phoenix Muni. The catchers were doing some drills; apparently getting ready to stop Dan Haren’s splitter in the dirt.

I’ve never been to minor league camp before, having attended only big-league games in all of my years at Spring Training. I’m looking forward to it, though I may miss Barry Zito pitching for the Giants against the A’s in Scottsdale.

I’ve never liked the Giants’ park, anyway. Plus, when I checked two months ago, there were only berm seats available, and by now they might even be sold out.

I don’t especially want to spend the afternoon baking in the sun before I have to go out to Surprise, Ariz. for the Royals game. Why the Royals? More on that later, but it involves the Lincoln Journal-Star.
