  • Things I’ve Learned by Having Press Creds

    - George Brett is a big fan of insoles. He got pretty excited when an insole rep set up his wares in the clubhouse. Brett started going on about how they help everything, from your feet to your legs to your back. Of course, Brett is just a pretty enthusiastic guy.

    - As he grabbed a bottle of water from the clubhouse cooler behind me, Octavio Dotel tried to sneak a peek at my notes while I was jotting something down. That was odd.

    - Pedro Gomez just stopped into the pressbox. He’s a pretty affable fellow, not like the zombie that ESPN forced him to become while stalking Barry Bonds a while back.

    - The Royals pressbox in Surprise, Ariz. is air-conditioned, has really comfortable leather chairs, and a wide selection of cans of pop. However, if there were a place to plug in my laptop down in the box seats along the third-base line, I’d rather be there. There’s a disconnect from the ballgame that you feel up here.

    - Pressbox bathrooms are cleaner than the bathrooms downstairs, but don’t smell any better.

    - I think there are as many packs of cards in MLB clubhouses as there are bats. On every table, at least half a dozen packs were laid out. Strangely, no one was playing with them.

I’ll have more to add tomorrow, I don’t want to give away all the good stuff today…
