  • What I’ve Been Up To

You may have noticed that the posting has been a little lean around The Pastime lately. It’s not because I’ve been slacking off, but just the opposite. I’ve been busy enjoying the glorious return of baseball this week.

Over at Beyond the Boxscore, I have a piece up detailing the top Opening Day performances through time. It was powered by the wonderful Play Index created by Sean Forman at Baseball-Reference.com

The A’s have opened the season at 2-2 so far, and Ken Arneson, Philip Michaels and myself have been tracking all angles of the A’s young season at Catfish Stew. It’s worth checking out if you’re into good writing and witty analysis. If you like pictures, numbers and mediocre game breakdowns, I write there, too.

With the Huskers cruising along to a disappointing season in Big 12 baseball action, the focus over at Corn Nation has turned increasingly to football. Of course, it’s hard to focus on anything else here in Nebraska. If you’re a fan of college baseball, I’m keeping things up to date for the Big Red baseball team there.

The minor leagues opened play yesterday, so there’s been a lot going on at A Minor Consideration, the A’s farm system site I co-write with Condition Oakland’s Aaron Hoag. If you’re interested in the A’s minor leaguers — and who isn’t — head on over and check out what we’re writing about on a daily basis.

On a completely different note, has anyone else noticed Miguel Cabrera, the Marlins’ third-baseman, wearing his eye black as war paint this week? I don’t recall if he’s done this in the past, but he looked like an extra from Braveheart in today’s game.
