Thanks, Marlins Broadcasters
I found a pleasant surprise when I checked my email today after spending yesterday in Wichita, Kansas at the Huskers-Shockers baseball game. The talented and prolific Jeff Sackmann wrote me a note informing me that my humble little site, The Pastime, was mentioned on the Marlins-Brewers broadcast on April 11th.
I logged into my MLB.tv account, checked it out, and sure enough, it was true. My post on home run leaders from each state was cited — by who I believe to be Rich Waltz and Tommy Hutton — in the second and third innings.
They spoke on the interesting names to be found leading each state, and seemed delighted that Fred McGriff was the Florida leader with 493. The broadcasters even gave me the courtesy of mentioning that they found the list on “The Pastime dot net”, which I’m very grateful for. It’s refreshing to see a member of the media give credit to the blogging world instead of simply lifting content. Colin Cowherd could learn a lot from Tommy Hutton and Rich Waltz.
Speaking of Hutton, it’s a funny coincidence that just yesterday, as I was driving from Lincoln to Wichita, I heard a great interview he did on Charley Steiner’s XM radio show, The Baseball Beat.

I know that our shortstop and second baseman are approaching 30 home runs each. Has that ever been done before? If so are they in good company?
Thank you guys - am a ticket holder for 21 games a year and tivo every game when I can’t come. Love the broadcasts.

[…] Prompted by a comment by Charlie Tackos on this post, I did a little research on the home run power of 2B-SS combinations. When it comes to middle infielder teammates, Hanley Ramirez (29 HR) and Dan Uggla (26 HR) of the Marlins are close to establishing a Major League first. They’ve already become just the third 2B-SS combination to each hit 25 or more homers in a season, and are just a couple of round-trippers away from becoming the first pair to hit 30 each. […]
