Stat-meters
I think I’ve settled on calling these graphics “Stat-meters”, but if a better name comes along, I’ll go with it.
As I explained when I originally came up with this idea, I like that the ability to quickly glance at something and be able to tell just what kind of hitter someone is. I’ve been looking over rows of numerical stats for long enough that I think I can get an idea by just the numbers. But I’m sure not everyone can. Therefore, I came up with these graphics.
The blue bar is the batter’s average.
The dark green bar is his on-base, an extension of average.
The red bar is slugging, another extension of average.
The lime green bar is EqA.
The black overlay represents the league averages with vertical bars.
The dash marks on the top are home runs.
So here they are, in descending order of EqA:

So, with just a glance, you can tell that the only A’s to have an above average slugging percentage were Thomas, Swisher and Bradley, while the only hitters to hit above league average were Kendall and Payton. Half the team had above average on-base percentages, though, something most would expect from an Oakland team.

The wordpress looks much better than the old blog, nice set-up.
I like the graphs, but I’d still like to see something pertaining to league average against each position. Kendall’s OBP stats are look good against the league but are top notch when compared to AL catchers.
